WHAT'S NEW
The Best Real Ale in New Zealand- It's Official!
This year BrewNZ the annual New Zealand Beer Awards, accepted entries in Cask Conditioned form and for the first time, allocated one of the much coveted Trophies to that Class of Beer. We entered 3 of our beers and put them up against the other real ale breweries in New Zealand. We received a medal for each, but more importantly, the Trophy for 'Best in Class' for Real Ales.
This is our first trophy, and it was awarded to our Russian Imperial Stout Nokabollokov (ABV 8.6%). So congratulations to Sean our brewer for brewing such a great beer. Other medal winners were Challenger, RNA and Enigma. A nice birthday present arriving exactly 6 years after opening day.
The current brew of Nokabollokov is nearly finished, in fact at time of writing there is half a barrel left on the shelf. But we plan to brew it again and bottle it, so that people all over the country can sample our trophy winning tipple.
Thanks to those of you that visited us at Beervana in Wellington this year, and congratualtions to Garry Osborne the winner of the Christchurch 'Round the Bars' competition. Lets hope that those of you that filled in the Beer Passport had a fun time and will be in again next year. Roll on Beervana 2011 !!

Sunday Roast Springs off the Menu
As we move into summer we will be finishing the Hop Club Members Sunday Roast Deal, the final Sunday will be the 19th September. Sundays will still be members' day as we will be giving DOUBLE HOP CLUB POINTS all day. So house beers will attract 20% hop club dollars and house wines 10%. Starting 26th September.
IPA is back in cask
Some of the most recent brew (and in our opinion the best so far) has been put into casks as well as kegs and bottles. So you guys can drink it the way it should be. A little warmer and a little flatter and consequently more tasty!
Of course the IPA (and the Sauvin) are available in 500ml bottles to enjoy anywhere. They can be purchased from the Twisted Hop or from shops all over the country, for a comprehensive list click here
Raspbiery returns
Our annual raspberry beer is back, once again in the form of a Raspberry Chocolate Porter. It is made with real raspberries and real chocolate, and this year it is offered on draught only at The Twisted Hop. Fresh raspberry aroma, slightly bitter chocolate and coffee flavours overlain with a tart raspberry finish.
Bar Renovations
To cope with all you faithful customers on busy nights we will be extending the downstairs bar in September. This will give us more space and extra till 9 handpumps and 18 keg beer taps. It will enable us to off the complete 3 boys range on tap as well as a draught cider, more guest beers and more of our seasonals.
But it does mean we will have to close the downstairs bar for 5 days while the work is done, but do not fear, we will open upstairs for that week and use No.8. Dates yet to be confirmed.
City Tram Extension
Hope you are enjoying watching the workmen get on with the new tram rails being installed! They are progressing well and the first phase from Lichfield St to the fountain is due for completion later this week. Please bear with us during the construction phase, they are getting on with it as quickly and tidily as they can. Ash St will be kept open throughout the project, and once the northern section of Poplar is completed (in a few weeks) vehicles will be able to enter via Ash and leave via Poplar to Lichfield.
